Mic stopped working, how to restore default settings?

I don't know the default settings, but double click on the volume icon,
and a window will appear. In your preferences you can add the
microphone, and a 'recording' tab will show up. Now you can change
settings for the microphone.

If that won't work, try 'alsamixer' in your terminal, and change the
settings for the microphone with alsamixer.
