Hi Srinivas Subramanyam!
Dual boot of XP and Ubuntu is possible - but not triaval. You can
loose your data! Still it can be done.
Your hardware looks differant to me (I can find the printer in India,
the company making the modem I believe centers in China). I am not
familiar, and do not have good tools to become so. Ubuntu is
committed to world wide support so it may well be worth giving a try.
The desktop disk is a "live CD" version. It runs in the systems
memory and does not use the hard drive at all. It has the option,
once running, to install. Please note that installing would affect
the machines Master Boot Record which will make XP install CD's not
happy. You can recover your master boot record but the whole process
is complecated.
Research, in the Ubuntu documentation and using the Google search
engine "XP Ubuntu dual boot".
Good Hunting!
Tod
