HP Printer installation

Hai.I have at present Windows XP Media Center Edition. I'am planning to
switch to ubuntu or Edubuntu. I do not want to remove the costly
windows.CanI have the dual boot option?Does Ubuntu support the devices
I used in
windows? That is:

>HCL H505 Printer.
>HUAWEI Quidway WA 1003A Modem

And what if something goes wrong in the installation? How do I retrieve my
data?
