Hi Verlager!

OK. in Synaptic go to Settings > Repositories. Mark ALL of them (it
may take you to select the box several times but check them all. Hit
the "Reload" icon in the upper left hand of the Synaptic Window - you
should see a little window display the repository lists being
downloaded (32 of them) and then everything will go a bit grey, the
cursor will be a little circulateing ball, and then it will all clear
up and be back.

About the center of where you found "Reload" hit "Search". Type
"chess" in the window and hit the "Search" button. The Package window
will now all be about chess and you should find "Xboard" the second
from the bottom using the scroll bar to get there.

Enjoy!

Tod
