Had once a similar effect. Here this was cuased by a setting in
/etc/hdparm.conf where i activated udma.
If you´ve modified that file on your own coment it out and reboot.
...here the udma was activated without hdparm.conf, too.
If that doesn´t help you you may check in launchpad for "Loading
Hardware drivers".
