mp3 plugins installed but amarok still won't play mp3s

Hello group,

On a fresh kubuntu install. Did $sudo apt-get update
first thing. Then opened adept and installed
gstreamer-0.8-mad. No errors or warnings.

But when I run amarok it only plays oggs and wavs and
skips through all the mp3s without playing any of
them.

What to do?
