The execute is there.
$ sudo echo $JAVA_HOME
Password:
/home/satimis/jrockit-R26.4.0-jdk1.5.0_06
$ ls -l `which java`
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 50 2006-08-14 10:31 /usr/bin/java ->
/home/satimis/jrockit-R26.4.0-jdk1.5.0_06/bin/java
