You DON'T have to unmount an ext2/ext3 filesystem to grow it up. You
CAN do it only using extt2online. I repeat, you CAN grow ext2/ext3
while mounted. You can't shrink it (however) while it's online:

lvresize -> make the LVM logical volume larger
ext2online -> make the filesystem grow up to the logical volume size
with an online fs.
