You can also create a tar file to backup. I believe the command-line
should be:
tar czvf home.tar.gz /home
That's going by memory, but it should create a single file with all the
permissions and whatnot stored, so you can later 'tar zxvf home.tar.gz'
from the root directory after you've installed your new system and get
everything set up and put in the right place.
