First, I disagree that windblows babysits the users. I think of it more
as herding livestock.
Second, I fall into the category discussed at the end of your comments.
I am an appliance repair man/air conditioning tech/leatherworker. I am
not likely to ever be knowledgable enough about computers to not be
"dangerous" in your opinion.
However, parts suppliers for my trade have started putting exploded
diagrams of machines on their websites instead of in the catalogs.
Therefore, I use the internet as part of my livelyhood, and will reamain
a "danger" to the internet for some time.
Whether you like that attitude or not, there will be some users like me
that you will have to deal with. I am away from windows for good,
except for an old machine with '98 on it to run children's programs. So
questions from people like me:
who have not used computers for very long
who didn't enjoy their windblows experience
who choose ubuntu because of good reviews
who are not likely to persue a personal relationship with their machine
these dumb questions will still come from time to time.
The question is how they will be handled. I am assuming that at some
point in your life, you were at a point that you needed "hand holding"
with computer problems. Another thing is that some people are smarter
(or dumber) than others. So, keep that in mind when questions come in.
I enjoy this list and have saved quite a few messages so that I can try
things suggested, or refer to if/when I have problems. I can get ideas
from both the terse and verbose replies.

much energy on something so trivial!
