Dapper on a PowerBook G3?

Hello, I apologize for my ignorance, but I just purchased a used
wallstreet 2 last night. While I've been using macs for a few years now
I am a stranger to pre-X OS's and this 'book doesn't have an OS
installed regardless. From what you're saying it sounds like BootX is
required to install ubuntu on this model, does this mean there's no
hope for installing Ubuntu without purchasing some legacy install discs
first?
