joysticks

Hi, i've trying to configure several joysticks but i havent been able.
I typed dmesg and you see is properly recognized but when i try to play
with gxmame the joystick directions get stuck. if i use jscalibrator
then the direction pad wont work, only the buttons.
I tried 2 saitek pads and a cheap 9E pad with no analog pad. In the 3
pads the directions (usually down or left) get stuck hence becoming
unplayable.
