This is the contents of a /etc/gEDA/ after apt-get'ing geda on one of
my Breezy systems:

# ls -l

total 88

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9338 2005-04-01 18:41 gschem-darkbg

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 366 2005-04-01 18:41 gschem-gtkrc

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9358 2005-04-01 18:41 gschem-lightbg

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 11557 2005-04-15 03:47 system-gafrc

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6159 2004-08-14 07:39 system-gnetlistrc

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 38798 2005-04-01 18:41 system-gschemrc

The above is on a machine still running Breezy, although I've now
upgraded to Dapper. I should have said that my solution worked for me
after doing a

apt-get install geda

as apposed to any other method of installing/compiling geda.
