Simply, try with 'sudo' when modify whatever out of your home
directory. But be careful : )
$ sudo cp yourfont.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig
# sudo means 'do this job with SuperUser(root) prviliege'
