I had a similar problem with my Aptiva as well when I was trying to
install Ubuntu 5.10. -(I was cursing like Sarge from Beatle Baily just
without the bubble ballons you would see from the comicx.)- I was lucky
enough to have an earlier version of Ubuntu which was 5.04. And
installed that instead of the 5.10. If you can try getting an earlier
version for download. And run that instead of the recent one. It worked
for me. I know I was having the same hard disk problem when it came time
to partitioning it. And just gave up on it. Since I thought that it
might be the kernel itself trying to do something. But never had the
problem when I was installing it on my Dell GX150 Optiplex. So I figure
that the other version will do. And sure enough it installed and got it
set up without a hitch. The simple way of fixing it is to just try and
get an earlier version burn it in and install it. The other
applications that you would like to get that would be in the Breezy
Badger. Can be easily downloaded and installed at a later time. It will
give you the same thing as using the 5.10. And between the two versions
are so minor on it. I am just wondering with the new version of ubuntu
if there is a major updates on that one. I might still order the same
amounts as I did the last time for the Breezy badger. Can never have
enough versions of Ubuntu.
