I'm not sure what you exactly mean  here but when I want to record
something, I open Audacity, stick the mike in computer's phone and go
Application>Sound and video>Volume Control>Captures

I transferred music from a MD so it's not what you want but the
procedure's the same. I'm sure it'll work for you if...I understood
your post correctly.
