	 When libraw1394 was installed part of the routine is for a device (raw1394) to be created. For some reason it wasn't...and even when I as root go into /dev and MAKEDEV raw1394 it doesn't get created either. Good thing there is no Firewire on this box.

      Answering my own question. This **apparently** is a long-standing bug.
