Hardware Upgrade: Widescreen Monitor

I'm moving to a widescreen monitor. I've confirmed that my video card does
support the widescreen format, but I'm not sure how to go about adding
the 1440x900 resolution to my list of available formats in the screen
resolution selector.

Any help is appreciated.
