gnopernicus not speaking

I've had a lot of problems with Gnopernicus. It really isn't a good
piece of software. It either magically works or it doesn't. The UI
doesn't give you any trouble-shooting options and the documentation is
next to use-less. All it does it show you a screenshot of Gnopernicus
and talk about each button. I can do better than that by just browsing
Gnopernicus! When your "documentation" could just as well be replaced by
extended tooltips, you know that there's something seriously wrong with
your documentation (and yes, I've been a teacher and a writer).

In any event, in my case what I have to do is kill festival from the
command line and then start Gnopernicus again.

Best,
Daniel.
