Ubuntu power management question

Newbie here to Ubuntu and Linux. Learning a little bit everyday... I
have searched the forums, etc. and can't seem to find what i am
looking for. Here is what is happening - I leave my machine, x minutes
go by and the screensaver comes on, and then x more minutes and the
monitor goes into standby mode. I would like to stop the monitor from
going into standby mode. Whenever it comes out of standby mode the
screen image is distorted until it warms up.

How do i stop the monitor from going into standby mode? Thanks.
