Hehe...somehow I now feel even a little better about getting it to work.. ;)

Thomas, yes I used the first 512 from my /boot partition.. thanks again.

I did quite a lot of searching online for plausible solutions but quite
surprisingly that was the first time I read about doing it that way.. that
made me a little more optimistic about the chances of success actually.
