Hostap v. Orinoco drivers

I have a Del C.400 laptop with internal mini-PCI wireless card, the
Truemobile 1150.

The default card drivers in both Hoary and Breezy do not support
scanning, nor can I get Kismet to work at all. I've filed a bug for this
in Breezy, but no answer yet. I'd like scanning to work so that things
like Wifi Radar and Network Manager work properly.

It occurs to me that the hostap driver may work with this card. I
believe it supports scanning. Does anyone have any experience of this,
and how do I activate it on my Hoary system? I see there is a
hostap-modules package in Synaptic. Is it sufficient to install this?
