An Ubuntu-based server?

I am looking into trying to build a simple server distribution based
around Ubuntu or possibly Debian itself. The idea is to make something
as simple as SME Server (see contribs.org) but more modular and more
easily updated.

I've drafted a few preliminary notes and set up a mailing list, where
I and a couple of friends are just starting to discuss the idea. You
can read the notes and the discussion so far in the archive - see
below.

If this sounds of any interest and you'd like to help, do please come
and join the mailing list.

In case you want to recap, there's an archive at:

To subscribe:

mail servix-request at firedrake.org with subject "subscribe".

To unsubscribe:

do the same thing, with "unsubscribe" as the subject.
