[Breezy] Disappearing Menu Items / Folders / Kernel Patch

I am having a very annoying problem here.

Just now, after logging into Gnome, my Application menu is showing only
Gnome stuff (KDE is installed here, too).

At some point later today I will check my Application menu again, and
all the KDE stuff will have "appeared".

Some might say "Well, there's some process that hasn't completed, and
when it does, all your menu items will be present". Unfortunately, I
don't believe this is true. Here's why.

The other day, after my system had been up for several days, I wanted to
make an adjustment to Firestarter. It should "live" in Applications >>
System Tools, but it wasn't there, nor was it anywhere else in the
Applications, Places or System menus.

I opened a terminal and typed "which firestarter" and got
"/usr/sbin/firestarter". A quick check of Synaptic confirmed that indeed
Firestarter was still installed. The System Monitor showed it to be
running.

I reinstalled Firestarter and it promptly returned to it's proper place
in my Applications >> System Tools menu.

Then, in a separate occurence, I was looking for my /usr/lib/mozilla
and /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox folders in Nautilus. They weren't there.
Another check (as above) confirmed both programs were present on my
system, in fact, I was using Firefox at that moment on another desktop.

Later the folders reappeared.

I checked the Ubuntu Bugzilla for answers. I found this one
(http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14967) where others had the
same things happen to them plus a few others, such as desktop icons
disappearing, etc.

I'm running the 2.6.12-8-k7 kernel. Can anyone tell me if these patches
have been applied?

David
