Breezy: Dell D610 jerky display

I upgraded to Breezy a couple days ago and I like it. However, I have 
noticed that GNOME seems to be taking a lot of system resources to move 
windows and scroll. The display is also very jerky. According to the graph 
on my system monitor, it maxes-out whenever I move a window around or 
scroll. Is GNOME 2.12 more processor hungry than previous versions? Is 
there something I can do to make it better or is this something I have to 
live with?
