It's worth noting that OS X's print system is the same one that's in Linux 
(CUPS), so if it works there, using the normal print system instead of 
bypassing it somehow, then there's a good chance it'll eventually work on 
linux too.

From what I've heard, it helps if a developer can directly get the contact 
details of a developer within the company who might be willing to volunteer 
to act as a company representative/liason.  With everything else, I guess 
it's a matter of being diplomatic.  Maybe if you find out who was responsible 
for previous canon linux drivers...
