will ubuntu know my printer?

thanks for the reply
i had looked into turboprint a few days ago
i'm hesitant in paying for software when the whole idea of linux is for 
it to be free
and besides, to buy turboprint would cost more than to buy a compatible 
printer
if turboprint has a driver for the MP130, why does linux not yet have 
that driver?
i find it puzzeling

do you, or anyone, know if i can print to the canon MP130 as though it 
were a "raw" printer?
that is, a generic printer?

i haven't even asked about the scanner in the MP130 yet :) i think i 
already know the answer :)
