Ubuntu comes with a very nice program called "Synaptic" which lets you
install and remove programs with just a couple of mouse clicks.

This summer I wanted to test how "ready for the desktop" Linux was. I
installed Ubuntu and then tried to do everything without the command
line. I went for over a month before my urge to break things took
over. :-) If I didn't like trying to install packages manually and
from the non-stable categories, I think I would have lasted longer.
