Creating an ubuntu boot cd

I've tried to no avail to get my machine dual booting properly. I've had all
kinds of problems when writing grub to the MBR (like grub nor xp booting at
all). I was successful in getting grub to come up by putting it in a /boot
partition, but I now get the NTLDR missing message when trying to boot XP.
The only way I can get XP to boot is to set the ntfs partition as active,
which then bypasses the grub menu entirely.
I'm just about out of patience. I am wondering if I can easily create a
boot-cd which will either launch grub and give me a working choice between
booting XP or ubuntu, or even a boot CD that will automatically boot my
unbuntu install. This is of course less convenient, but as I said, I'm
almost out of patience.
