I have switched to Ubuntu a while back and have not been able to use
alsa sound properly as I had with Debian. With Debian I had all the
proper modules loaded and used alsconfig in Debian sarge to setup alsa
had it has been running very well since but on Ubuntu there isn't an
alsaconfig. But since I have switched over to Ubuntu sound has been my
very own bane.
I am using 2 boxes:
Apple PPC G4 800Mhz
Apple PPC Powerbook Ti 633Mhz
Powerbook: kernel version 2.6.12.5
sound card is Tumbler (Alsa) but when playing sound from i.e. games, it
comes out as a very garbled static mess
modules:
snd_powermac 55556 2
snd_pcm_oss 67648 1
snd_mixer_oss 23296 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 111716 2 snd_powermac,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 29668 1 snd_pcm
snd 66612 7
snd_powermac,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 11524 2 snd
snd_page_alloc 11684 1 snd_pcm
G4 800Mhz: kernel version 2.6.13.1
Well, nothing is played and when running xmms the only way I can get
sound to work is only through esound but anything using oss or alsa..
just does not exist including any other sound application an games.
modules:
snd_powermac 55588 2
snd_pcm_oss 68192 0
snd_mixer_oss 23488 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 110468 5
snd_emu10k1,snd_ac97_codec,snd_powermac,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 30276 2 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm
snd 71156 13
snd_emu10k1,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device,snd_ac97_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_powermac,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 11524 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 12808 2 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm
I have been working on this for some time and have been trying
everything before I came to the list. If anyone can help shed some
light on this perplexing issue, I would be very grateful.
