Ubuntu kernel configuration

I need to know a workable setup for sound in a kernel, so I tried looking at
my Ubuntu system that does sound just fine on my hardware.

I looked in /proc, but the config was not there (as it is in my other Linux
distros).

I loaded kernel-source-2.6.10, but there is no .config file.

So: I'm uncertain exactly what we get with the kernel binaries that
are usually installed.

Is there a way to find out?
