Correct, you're seeing the same situation. ACPI is really the only way to
fully control modern PC-based computers; hence both Linux and Windows
depend on having that functionality there.
Linux is just as unhappy about finding ACPI to be buggy as Windows is about
not having any at all.
If you go to the BIOS and disable the (broken) ACPI, Linux should boot; but
this is only a workaround and you'll have to keep toggling if you switch
between Linux and Windows.
A better solution is to get the manufacturer to fix their machine---and the
only way to make this happen is by informing the people at the shop (*and*
the people who originally made the motherboard---you should be able to find
their contact details on the web). If enough people tell them there is a
problem, hopefully they'll release a new flash-upgrade to correct the issues
that people have reported.
(There may already be a firmware/BIOS upgrade available, this is definitely
work checking)...
