How to find hoary compatible packages

Hello,

I need a set of educational softwares and was looking
for compatible softwares for hoary.

I tried downloading some of the packages from the
below sites 
ftp://ftp.belnet.be/packages/ubuntu/
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/
but was not able to identify hoary compatible
packages. Most of the packages that I downloaded and
tried installing failed since the libraries were
either absent or the ones present were of older
version.

Is there any easy way of identifying the compatible
softwares. What is the convention followed in putting
the different packages under - 
    * main/
    * multiverse/
    * restricted/
    * universe/
