Converting Mail from Evolution for Mutt

I've heard good things about maildir, but I use mbox myself.

Even with a maildir, mutt used to take some time to read the messages -
writing was fast. I used to use a maildir+IMAP setup in the past.
So any clues on the best way to get the mail from Evolution into Mutt, vis a
vis the two routes I have in mind - how do I accomplish this?
