XMMS crashes

XMMS crashing is actually pretty common problem. I was experiencing it
myself too, but since it only crashes when you start playing songs, I
figured it was the output plugin that didn't work properly.

So my advice to you is that you go to XMMS preferences and try
changing the Output Plugin. Try them all and I'm sure one of them
works and won't crash XMSS anymore.

About mplayer, I would guess it's a codec-problem. Try install some
codec packets with Synaptic Package Manager. If it still doesn't work,
try installing VLC-player, it's a good alternative for mplayer.

And remember that the newest WMV videos are a bit dodgy to play with
anything else but Windows Media Player. I'm not even sure if there's
proper codecs for those new formats.
