Universe security questions

A couple apps I want are in universe.  In sources.list I'm reading
several caveats about universe, e.g, "Also, please note that software
in universe WILL NOT receive any review or updates from the Ubuntu
security team."

At the end of sources.list I have the following lines:
# deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ breezy-security universe
# deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ breezy-security universe

That seems to imply security updates do occur.  What am I missing
here?  Is it OK/safe to use apps from universe?

By extension I guess I should also inquire about backports and multiverse.
