emacs cut and paste

I have been confounded over the years by this issue. Recently I saw a tweak
that seemed to marry emacs to X such that selections were shared. I haven't
been able to find a copy it that message; however, I did find some
discussion in the emacs info doc file, under the heading "Mouse Commands for
Editing".
