There was an announcement made in August (albeit not very well publicized) that backports were now official and therefore part of the Ubuntu repository.

So for example, if you have a line in your sources list that reads something like...

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com main restricted ...

then add...

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com breezy-backports

or in the case of Hoary....

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hoary-backports

Depending on what mirror you use you might run into problems when trying to download the package lists. Some mirrors apparently don't carry backports. Some of said mirrors still have the directories, but no files.

In that case you can always go with http://archive.ubuntu.com as a last resort.

The old URIs (like the ones you mentioned) are still good for the "extras" repositories which are maintained by the backports team but aren't part of Ubuntu.

I don't think there is much of anything yet for Breezy. It's a bit early in the game.
