Breezy networking

Hi

Done many times but does not work on a 64 bit machine.

I have set up networking as static IP, resolv.conf is ok, i can ping the 
loopback, the route looks good but there is no way i can ping the 
network and any firewall is not the issue, the localnet IP looks good, 
this machine has a couple of oses dual booting and there networking 
works fine.

I can't find this from ubuntu guide:

Connections Tab -> Select "Ethernet connection" -> Activate/Deactivate

Where is the connections tab ?

Anyone can shed some light to get my box to see the rest of the ubuntu 
world ?
