Edubuntu as standalone distro

Yes.

You can install it on another partition.

On the other side, ypu can get the Edubuntu CD, put it on the CD tray.
It will tell you that you have an installation CD. If you choose to
install, it will get the Edubuntu packages from the CD and install
them. You wont have to install the full distro, only the Edubuntu
pieces.
