ubuntu doesn't shut down

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I looked at the listing on linux-laptop.net and mine isn't listed, perhaps because its too new.  I have a toshiba Satellite M55-S329.

If anyone knows the solution, please let me know.  In the meantime I'll try to investigate a little on my own after getting those pointers from Saru.
