just to say i agree with M. Shergold: i've installed Kubuntu from Ubuntu
5.10 (apt-get kubuntu-desktop) and it seems you need the root password
!!!! (not the user password !) to configure some (basic) stuff...like,
haven't the Kubuntu guys even _tried_ their own distro ? (i know you
can set a root password with sudo passwd root but that's ot the point
here, and btw it doesn't fix it)...there are lots of little details
like that which make you wonder
(another one, unrelated to ubuntu, but still: i've installed
Gtk-Gnutella from the repoes and the 1st time i start it, the top of
the windows was out of the screen, so i couldn't reach the menu,
couldn't grab it...silly detail, but the programm wasn't usable...i
uninstalled it and went for giFT, although the installer is a
command-line script, and it explains the best interface is gift_ncurse
or something !!! no thx, i've installed Apollon...).
Michael: the Ubuntu 5.10 with gnome is really good, it's only kubuntu
which has problems. you should try the gnome version, that's where the
developpers work most (it seems).
