Problems with playing DVD - Error invoking "dvdnav_get_next_block"

I am unable to play DVDs on my Breezy system.  Using Kaffeine I get the 
following error pop-up:-

	Error invoking "dvdnav_get_next_block": Error reading NAV packet..

With extra details showing :-

	dvdnavsrc.c(1512): dvdnavsrc_loop: /internal_thread/source:
	system error: Input/output error

I get similar errors, complaining about NAV packets if I try other media 
players.

Clues please on what might be wrong and how I can start to fix it.
