Well, as I said in my original post, that wasn't exactly possible.

The upgrade had stalled mid-upgrade, Firefox wasn't displaying any
fonts, Konqi wasn't even letting me on the net, I was fairly
sensory-deprived in terms of searching for information! :-(

Also, in such extreme circumstances, the normal kind of problem-solving
techniques that you follow do rather tend to fall out of the window..


I don't ordinarily read the international support list due to volume of
messages (but the local list is relatively under-used at present), so it 
was just pure luck that having recently re-tuned-in to keep progress on 
release announcements that your message which solved my problem was in 
my news-spool (albeit under a vague non-obvious "how not to ask questions" 
thread subject (presumably from the original questioner, who was
presumably in a similarly-panicked state of mind as I was)) and I came 
across it later.

Thanks for supplying the advice needed, and because my thread includes
the specific error (libofx2) in the title it should be easier for people 
with this problem to search for your good advice from now on.. :-)
