Menu editing in Gnome

Sometimes, when you install certain applications from the universe or 
multiverse repositories, or if you manually install an application 
yourself, you don't end up with an application launcher being added to 
the menu. This is when the need arises to edit the menu - to add your 
own custom app launchers as menu items.
