Is there an real need to upgrade?

The only thing you are going to lack, is newer versions of
programs/packages. This includes things like Gnome, KDE, and user-end
programs like OpenOffice, etc..

You can stay with 5.04, and will continue to receive security upgrades
as they come along - which is no harm.

If you are satisfied with your current software versions, and are
worried about things breaking when you update - it is not necessary
that you do.
