to have a look for your soundcard and linux, go to 
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/index.php?vendor=vendor-Yamaha
and see. but the result isn't a happy one in your case.

and since you're planning to use linux in an recording environment, i
recommend you head over to ardour.org and join the maillinglist, cause
this would be definitve the thing you will be using. wouldn't it?
that list is also full of extraordinary nice people, willing to give you
the help you need.
