Intel hda sound help - where is alsaconf

if youre using external speakers over your laptop's headphone jack, you
have to enable "headphone jack sense", over the gnome volume applet.
there has to be a checkbox - maybe under "switches"? i am using the
german translation. you can also try to manipulate different devices
with the gnome applet. same thing with alsamixer, but there i was not
able to turn headphone jack sense on.

saving this setting does not work for me either :-(
