apt.conf configuration to exclude certain packages from upgrade

Hi:

I'm wondering if anyone knows of an apt.conf 
option to exclude certain packages from 
upgrading? I have looked exhaustively through 
google, but i cannot find the information there; 
I have also searched through man: apt-get and 
man: apt.conf, also to no avail.

I ask because I have built my own .deb libtunepimp 
packages from Ubuntu sources so that mp3 files 
can be accessed and tagged. However, the Ubuntu 
versions of libtunepimp do not have mp3 support. 
I use libtunepimp extensively in amarok.
