Hi,
I have the 686 kernel running:
uname -r
2.6.8-2-686
and I think my full GB is seen:
fbonjour at galileo 5 # cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 1036028 kB
MemFree: 593788 kB
Buffers: 128204 kB
Cached: 200832 kB

Inactive: 157524 kB

LowTotal: 905512 kB

Committed_AS: 155204 kB
PageTables: 524 kB
VmallocTotal: 114680 kB
VmallocUsed: 4068 kB
VmallocChunk: 109976 kB
1036028 kB like 1011MB, or 0.988GB.
Incidentally, where is the "mem" command, which displays this output
rather more nicely?
